UCSF’s Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) and Center for Vulnerable Populations (CVP) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is seeking a detail-oriented and excellent communicator to support the growing Health Information Technology and the Safety-Net program as a Research Data Analyst.

The position is based primarily in DGIM’s offices at ZSFG but may involve occasional travel to other UCSF campuses in San Francisco. The position will be hybrid remote and in-person.

The lab is an innovative, collaborative, and mission-driven research group that studies improving the health of historically marginalized populations. Its three core focus areas include:

  • Designing and adapting health technology to be more equitable
  • Assessing and addressing patient safety gaps
  • Leveraging social media for research and behavioral change

The Research Data Analyst will be a detail-oriented, proactive, and flexible individual, with an interest in working collaboratively with a research team on a variety of projects. The Research Data Analyst will be able to work effectively under direct supervision and with others. This individual will provide research and administrative support to the PI and across programs.

Responsibilities include:

Coordinating study activities across projects. Studies the Research Data Analyst may support include:

  • A randomized controlled trial to understand and reduce gaps in follow-up experienced by patients after receiving an abnormal colorectal cancer screening test 
  • Adaptation and evaluation of health technology to ensure it works for patients regardless of their income, health literacy, and language preference

Conducting research operations such as:

  • Submitting and maintaining institutional review board applications
  • Assisting with the recruitment materials and recruiting research participants
  • Collecting data via surveys, focus groups, and interviews
  • Coordinating research operations, like patient outreach and data collection, with implementation sites
  • Conducting literature reviews and systematic reviews
  • Cleaning, managing, and analyzing data in collaboration with the lab’s statistician
  • Coordinating research team meetings, taking notes, managing project timelines, and ensuring follow-up of deliverables
  • Assisting with preparation and submission of scientific manuscripts
  • Developing scientific presentations and reports in partnership with the PI

Planning events, including team retreats and annual scientific conferences such as the Promoting Research in Social Media (PRISM) Symposium (https://prism.ucsf.edu/)

Supporting the PI by managing the lab’s administrative operations. This includes:

  • Managing the PI’s calendar, including booking travel arrangements
  • Drafting and editing correspondence
  • Actively updating the PI’s biosketch, curriculum vitae, and publication list
  • Submitting expense reports
  • Assisting with developing policies and procedures to ensure that the lab’s operations, including its file and project management systems, collaboration tools, and dissemination activities run smoothly and efficiently.

Contributing to the lab’s online presence, including developing content and monitoring its social media accounts and website

Flexibility and willingness to adapt to the evolving needs of the program are essential for success in this position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training such as Associate’s degree and 2-3 years of work experience
  • Native Spanish or Cantonese language skills
  • Work or lived experiences with historically marginalized populations
  • Acquiring knowledge of research function. Acquiring ability to perform research analysis duties
  • Acquiring statistical analysis, systems programming, and database design skills to perform research analysis duties
  • Acquiring consultation skills
  • Ability to effectively manage time and see assigned parts of projects through to completion on deadline
  • Strong verbal, written, and visual communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in alignment with lab’s priorities
  • Ability to work effectively independently and with others
  • Strong attention-to-detail
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and project management software
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of public health and/ or social science topics
  • Experience conducting patient-facing research in a community or safety-net setting
  • Experience with qualitative and basic quantitative analysis
